Texas Legislature Public Hearings Week of 3/13-3/17

Texas Senate

Nearly 60 bills will have public hearings this week before Texas Senate Committees. In order to make sure our readers are in the know, we’ve compiled the full list of hearings for this week and noted some bills that may be of particular interest to Texas progressives.

Monday, March 13
The full list of public hearings for Monday, March 13 can be found here. Some of particular interest:

SB 5– Relating to requiring a voter to present proof of identification; providing a criminal penalty.

SB 75– Relating to the requirement for parental consent for a minor to join a labor union

SB 77– Relating to involuntary termination of parental rights based on sexual assault of the child’s other parent.

Tuesday, March 14

SB 103– Relating to the provision of bags to customers of a business at the point of sale (and the rights of local municipalities to ban or place restrictions on them)

SB 325– Relating to the procedure for expunction of arrest records and files for certain persons who are tried for an offense and subsequently acquitted.

SB 343– Relating to the prosecution of the offense of improper sexual activity with a person under the supervision of a community supervision and corrections department.

SB 452– Relating to the effect of certain agreements with a collective bargaining organization on certain state-funded public work contracts.

Wednesday, March 15

SB 27– Relating to the mental health program for veterans

SB 578– Relating to the creation by the Texas Veterans Commission of a veteran suicide prevention action plan

SB 840– Relating to certain images captured by an unmanned aircraft.

HB 130– Relating to the penalty for certain offenders for possession of a small amount of controlled substances

HB 450– Relating to the use of a mobile phone by a person occupying a voting station

Tuesday, March 14

HB 245– Relating to the consequence for a law enforcement agency’s failure to comply with reporting requirements for certain injuries or deaths caused by peace officers

HB 136– Relating to inclusion of career and technology education and workforce training in the mission of public education

HB 404– Relating to higher education curriculum review teams to review public school curriculum standards for college readiness purposes

HB 710– Relating to providing free full-day prekindergarten for certain children

HB 1291– Relating to the inclusion of American principles in the public school curriculum and instructional materials

HB 1389– Relating to class size limits on prekindergarten classes in public schools

Wednesday, March 15

HB 679– Relating to  prohibiting the use of mechanical or physical restraint on a child during a judicial proceeding in the juvenile court

HB 1862– Relating to the designation of certain river or stream segments as being of unique or ecological value

HB 1863– Relating to the use of money in the state water pollution control revolving fund

SB 4- Sanctuary cities bill

Thursday, March 16
