While block walking for a local candidate in the hot Texas sun back in late October, three Bernie Sanders National Delegates reminisced about their experiences over the course of the campaign. They had met people all over the country who were just as enthusiastic as they were about making the political revolution happen. Wouldn’t it be great, they thought, if we created an event where hundreds of Bernie Sanders supporters could come together to share what they’ve learned and what they have planned for the future?
And that is how the idea for the Now We Revolution: Texas Edition was born. Organizers Kristian Hernandez, Lauren Tenney and Justin Snider are now leading a group of volunteers in making that reverie into a reality.
While primarily targeted at Texans who have supported Bernie Sanders since the primaries and consider themselves #stillsanders, all who Feel the Bern and care to journey to the Lone Star State are welcome. The event will occur in Dallas on the first weekend in January. An evening mixer will kick things off on Friday, January 6th. On the 7th, there is a full day of educational workshops, round table discussions and speakers scheduled.
According to Hernandez, the event aims to help Texas progressives build and strengthen relationships with each other by providing a space and time to share skills, spread information about their ongoing efforts and plan for the future. The group of organizers hopes that other states will follow suit and plan similar events.
As the event’s tagline says, “This is everyone’s revolution. Let’s make it happen!”
